"Quick to judge, quick to anger...slow to understand. Ignorance and prejudice and they walk hand in hand." Geddy Lee

Knowledge is the key to understanding and compassion. Stigma and discrimination against people with brain illnesses can only be eliminated through attempting to understand the current science of the brain. In this vein, the "It's a Brain Thing" video series was developed by psychiatrist David Henley, M.D.

I just watched your presentation on bipolar, it was very well done, I feel like I understand it now, my cousin has bipolar 1, shes off the wall, but shes done drugs since age 10, so I think the drugs caused hers. your a very good teacher. I feel so furtunate to have found this page.
In mar I got depressed and got very suicidal and anxiuos two months later i abused caffine and ephedrine and in june I whent to rerhab and its not october and i've had the odd day where I am so depressed that my thoughts are chaotic and I have suicidal thoughts and bad anxiety, that happend for a day and another time it happened for a week, why might this be happening to me? I dont want to go back to that depprresion.

I just recently took a test at my doctor's office. It is called the Shedler QPD Panel. It seems to suggest that I have some hypomania symptoms which, after listening to your discourse on bipolar, I do now sort of agree with. I also have depression, and anxiety, as well as some PTSD (I had a recent incredibly horrible experience). It's interesting because I have a close friend who has Bipolar Disorder, though she is more manic than hypomanic. I also dated a guy who had mania.

Thank you for the videos about this, and other, disorders and conditions. I have subscribed :).

How common is it for some who is premature by 20 weeks and whose mother had an infected placenta and has a strong history of family mental illness, to have mental illness?

Thankyou for posting such informative and interesting videos. Do you plan to do a video on BDD by any chance? I would like to learn more about Body Dismorphic Disorder.
Also, is there an equivelent thing to BDD, only refering to the entire self?. Where the self loathing is not just confined to the body, but to every aspect of the person...mental, emotional, physical etc... A kind of 'super self hatred' disorder if you will. It probably sounds silly i know.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts though.

Thanks again
D

I would like to know how you as a psychiatrist think about the different theories of psychanalysis (object relations theory, classical Freudian view) to explain mental disorders and their efficiancy in treating them. By the way, your videos are very interesting! Greetings from Germany

Thanks very much Dr.Henley for all the very informative videos I've learned absolutely loads about the brain and the conditions that can follow, I now know the correct technical terms and symptoms of a few common conditions that some people belittle and disregard , so thanks!!!
