MY SELF:
I have been pole dancing since August/September 2006 so around a year and 5 months now. The only dance background I have is disco dancing from the age of 6 to 10ish... I guess dancing just stuck with me, and I have that natural rhythm. I have never done ballet or gymnastics.
I am self taught using video's on youtube, (I didn't use any DVD's, so I cannot suggest any there) I would study the moves and then go try them for myself, I studied the moves carefully before trying them, when I had them down I would then build up to the bigger moves, like going into inverts.
I made sure I had some kind of padding when trying new moves, I found it very important because I didn't fancy breaking my neck, so I use sofa cushions, or a duvet/quilt. I have a concrete floor so I tend not to do floor work, or I would have no knees left. This is why I hardly touch the floor in my video's and usually land on my feet.
Whether you go to a pole dancing school, or take classes, You will find it painful and fustrating in the beginning, I was not strong when I first started, and yes, I DID believe my arms were going to fall off haha, But if your anything like me you will love it and find it very fun so the first weeks is worth the pain!
I started pole dancing because I stuffer anxiety attacks, generalized anxiety disorder (and now recovering) agoraphobia.
I was advised by my Gp/Doctor that exercise would help - and he was right, it does help if you continue to exercise regularly, I also have cbt (cognitive behavioral therapy) to help overcome my issues, which again is slowly helping me get back on track and have a "normal" life long and painful process - but gotta be done!
However if your a guy, You might not want to do pole dancing to help with anxiety/panic attacks, why not try kickboxing, or some other sport, although I have seen some cool guy pole dancers, and Chinese pole acts!
POLE MOVES AND HELP:
One of the main questions I get is about moves and advice on them, I can't really help much Because in most cases I cannot see what your doing haha, When I can get to my pole (there is too much rubbish in the way right now) I will upload a few Moves, basic invert, superman, spins, ect to help you out. But for now just keep watching.
Being flexible can help, I have always been fairly flexible, but to increase my "flexiness" I do basic stretches every other day, like trying to do the splits, back exercises, are stretches ect, nothing to intense, I do them while watching tv haha
Sweaty hands... Most people will suffer sweaty hands, I do, and the only thing I do is use washing up liquid to wash my pole and dry properly - that is all, and should keep you going for a while.
MY POLE:
I use a 50mm chrome xpole AND now a 50mm titanium xpole both poles are fully removable and works on air pressure, No ceiling fixings required, Fully removable and portable,
You can swing upside down all you like and it will stay in place, Static and spinning settings,
The pole set fits ceilings 88"-108" (which seems to fit most ceilings)
You can buy extensions if your ceiling is higher.
I do not know about other poles - due to me only ever using these x-poles.
I would however like to say, do NOT get a peek-a-boo pole I you intend on hanging upside down - it will fall down
ONE LAST THING:
Keep immature comments and messages to yourself, I have seen disgusting comments left for some pole dancers on here (it's lucky some can laugh and brush it off) so before you call any woman on here who pole dances a "whore" "slut" "slag" please pick up a dictionary and read the meanings, I understand that pole dancing has a negative name to it i.e "exotic dance clubs" but not every woman who chooses to pole dance for fitness, health reasons, hobby, or just for fun - works in this industry, I do not have a problem with this line of work, it's just not for me. Any pole dancer in any industry is talented in my opinion.
Times change move on, get used to it and keep your negative opinions to yourself
Sorry if I have left anything out in this, I tried to mention everything that I get asked on a daily basis so I can cut down on messages I receive. Cause I get about 10 asking the same questions.
Thanks for taking a look at my video's
